Folklife Collection - A Creative Dyad

In 1992, former Salisbury University student Jaimi Miller collected folk material. His project is about one specific subculture: the folk group of Grateful Dead fans or Dead Heads. As a member of this group himself, the student chose to study this topic to explain what being a fan of this rock band means, and what it involves and makes it different than any other rock bands. He also interviewed three other fans to collect their opinions and share their experiences. Tapes enclosed.

In 1995, former Salisbury University student Jeff Eichelberger collected folk material. His collection explores the culture of "Deadheads", or fans of the band the Grateful Dead. Included are his account of concerts in Washington, D.C and Philadelphia, color photographs, a cassette tape interview with a Deadhead (transcript included), and a VHS tape from the Philadelphia concert (transcript included).
Folklife Collection - Family Narrative

In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1982, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. For this project, Daryl-Ann Gross collected various family narratives from her grandfather who is was a banjo player. As a background information for the rest of the paper, Daryl-Ann Gross introduced her grandfather by briefly summarizing his story from the 1920s until his retirement, describing along the way his personality and his love for music. The rest of the paper focuses on her grandfather's narratives, tales and adventures.

The folk songs contain lyrics pertaining to a local soccer team, barges, billboards, Averett College, 'Walk Shepherdess Walk', and 'Dem Bones'. Two of the songs include further descriptions concerning the context of the songs.
